An Introduction to our adventure, as Father and Son

Every father should remember that one day his son will follow his example, instead of his advice — Charles F Kettering

Firstly, an introduction. Who am I? My name is Daniel Low, I am 26, and just over 3 years ago I had a son, Oscar. Around the same time, I was gifted my first camera – a Canon 30D. A spark immediately ignited and I had found my new favourite hobby. My mother Debra was a photographer back in the film days, our loft was converted to a dark room to develop the pictures. The man who gifted me the camera, Mark, is a close friend who has a huge passion for taking pictures. With the wealth of knowledge I could tap into, I knew it wouldn’t take me long to learn the ropes.

Loosely, I plan for the blog to be about the adventures I embark upon, showing the unique bond between a Father and Son. We are no strangers to camping and adventure, however we are both still learning… I guess we always will be.

Growing up in a small Northumbrian mining village called New Hartley, I have always loved the outdoors and what our beautiful county has to offer. Throughout my youth, we also had a caravan in the Grasslees Valley’s of Coquetdale. My Granda was like a tour guide for the area, he knew every walk, every road and loads of hidden little spots. I want to follow in his footsteps and show my son all of the brilliant places we grew up as kids. I also want to discover new locations and especially camp in some new locations.

Last summer (2018), I took Oscar on his first ever camping adventure – I chose one of my favourite sites, Clennell Hall (Coquetdale). Much to my satisfaction he was an absolute natural. We instantly had the camping bug. We returned again a few weeks later.

June 2018 – Clennell Hall

As I write this blog I have already done my first camps of 2019 (without my little sidekick). One to Stonethwaite in the Lake District, Cumbria and the other was a small place called The Boe Rigg in Bellingham, Northumberland. Thankfully, I have not been away with my son yet, which means our first overnight adventure of 2019 will be documented. I have loads of plans and will be finding the time to get us away.

Join us in our adventure through rural Northumberland and beyond!

I appreciate anyone who has taken the time to read my blog. If you know anyone else who might be interested in following our adventure, please make sure you share the website. I can also be found on all the usual social media sites under the handle @iamdanlow

Equipped with a Canon 30D & the help of my little sidekick, we begin to document our adventure.
